William Hewes is an American artist. Hewes was born in what was a small New England town in 1957. Before becoming an artist in 2012 Hewes worked in the building trades for 40 years and often uses the skills learned from his tradesman work within his artwork. Hewes also drew plans for decks, floor plans for houses, painted signs, designed his own fishing lures for surfcasting along the souther shores on New England. Hewes paints in the Action/Drip style, even building his own spinning table to produce amazing large-scale spin paintings. After experimenting with different styles of painting, he settled on abstract works because of the freedom within the genre. Hewes lists his artistic inspirations as Jackson Pollock, Robert Natkin, Mark Rothko, Jasper Johns, and Leon Golub. This is why you'll see his paintings in different styles.
